Known as Pig's Eye Landing until 1841 when a Roman Catholic missionary built and dedicated a log chapel to the apostle Paul. In 1849 St. Paul became the Capitol of the newly found territory and in 1858 it was made the State Capitol when Minnesota was admitted to the Union.
