Austin, the State Capitol of Texas and the fourth largest City originated as the riverside village of Waterloo in the buffalo hunting region. It was selected in 1839 by scouts as the site for the permanent Capitol of the Republic of Texas, and renamed Austin in honour of Stephen F Austin, the father of the Republic.
